Scuba diving Greece, Day-by-day itinerary!
Arrive on Kefalonia and proceed to your elegant boutique hotel in Fiskardo with splendid views over Lefkada and Ithaca islands. Meet your hosts at Fiskardo-Divers to complete registration and get fitted for dive gear (exclusively Scubapro). Visit the dive centre’s Environmental Museum to learn about Kefalonia’s rare protected marine life (such as the Caretta turtle and the Mediterranean monk seal) and the compelling history of Bristol Beaufighter, the WWII English warplane shot down by Germans over Fiskardo in 1944. Free evening. Scuba diving Greece.
Breakfast on the hotel’s terrace enveloped by majestic cypresses and orange groves. Departure to Emblissi (10 am), a rich and protected eco-system that comprises much fish, invertebrate species and ancient pottery relics among hills of Posidonia oceanica seagrass (max depth 15m). Today’s 2nd dive will take you to The Cliff, a majestic place. There, you’ll be entranced by abundant sea life and strange “mushroom-like” rock formations, where groupers conceal themselves among holes. Sightings of sea hares and the very rare Mediterranean Monk Seal are also possible (adjustable max depth from 12-40m). Return at 2 pm. Free afternoon and evening.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the Barge (10 am), a 50m long wreck sunk in 2008 during a fierce storm, and now lying at a depth of between 5-25m. Algae and sponges have colonized the wreck, sculpting an arresting artificial habitat for many marine species including the beautiful labelling. Today’s 2nd site is Xeropunta, an easy coastal dive (max depth 15m).
Relax and explore small canyons and a shallow cavern (6m deep) where you can admire bright coral-encrusted walls – and perhaps, the great sleeper lobster. Return at 2 pm. For this afternoon, we have arranged a mild hiking adventure, involving some of the most beautiful sights of the area through the organized footpaths of Fiskardo. Free evening. Sailboat rental.
Breakfast at the hotel. An extraordinary day of diving and discovery awaits. Departure at 10 am for one of Kefalonia’s most popular dives – The Temple: a vast coral-decorated cave with 2 entrances creating spectacular light effects for those in the middle of the cave (max depth 30).
Next, visit the captivating wreck of the doomed Bristol Beaufighter (max depth 17m). The afternoon holds an excursion to two of Kefalonia’s most magnificent sights: Lake Melissani, a flooded grotto with sunray-illuminated turquoise pools; and the 2-million-year-old Drogarati Cave, located at an altitude of 120m in the village of Haliotata, and boasting an astounding gallery of stalagmites and stalactites. Free evening.
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart at 10 am for another much-loved dive, the Secret of Venus: a dramatic narrow canyon opening up into a 30m long tunnel with incredible light effects enlivening an underwater oasis (max depth 35m).
Your second dive is the Cathedral: a large open-air cave with an underwater entrance at 3m. The cave is home to several chambers with 2 beaches, impressive stalactites and a striking colony of bats and swallows (max depth 20m). Return 2.30pm. Free afternoon and evening. Scuba diving Greece.
Breakfast at the hotel. Embark at 10 am for your first dive at Asteris Island and witness sunken wonders including ancient wrecks and anthropological remnants. In a long rocky crest, mid-channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca (max depth 40m).
Tonight, your final evening, a thrilling scuba dive at the Cliff awaits you; a 30m drop-off to an outstanding site of utopian rock formations and rich sea life (you will also have the chance to glimpse a Mediterranean Monk Seal here).
Breakfast at the hotel. Even though this day is free from diving, countless alternatives await you. A tour has been organized with a few surprises around the island’s hidden beauties. Also, if the weather allows us to, Kayaking in Kefalonia’s most scenic coastal treasures is an option.
You’ll see secluded sandy bays, rock gardens, picturesque fishing villages, natural stone arches and the trademark sheer limestone cliffs. In between, there will be the opportunity to swim, snorkel and relax over a delicious meal at one of the island’s loveliest beaches. A good-bye dinner will conclude the day. Sailboat rental.
Departure day. A free day, depending on your departure time. Arrangements have been made for your transportation to your airport or port.
